theater is old and out of function.. but not for long..
the function of theater is not anymore to tell the story of community or to preserve and transmit cultural behaviors, values and dreams. this was the case in the past when the evolution was slow and the changes from a generation to another not so many. so then totally made sense that what a generation achieved to be transfered to the next one. is not the case anymore, in this times of accelerated change by applying a pattern of reinforcing values from the past you produce just damage. the culture, the tradition is often your enemy because provides old inadequate solutions and expectations for new life situations.
then the theater have to be fundamentally requestioned and differently used. probably the role of theater is not anymore to pass and reinforce the cultural frame, but quite the opposite - to deconstruct and dissolute the cultural implemented patterns of functioning, values, desires and conventions in order to make space for new adaptations and new responses for totally new situations.
